On the 6th December, Manchester Masons were pleased to be able to present a cheque for £3129.60 to members of staff at St Mary’s Hospital IVF Unit from the East Lancashire Masonic Charity.
St Mary’s is leading the way in infertility preservation provision. The Department of Reproductive Medicine was established in 1982 and was the first fully-NHS funded IVF unit in the UK. They are able to offer patients whose fertility may be affected by other medical treatments the opportunity to store their eggs, sperm or embryos for future use.
The donation will be used to purchase a new incubator for the hospital. The incubator will be used to transfer eggs, sperm and embryos to and from the theatres and laboratories.
Greg Horne, Clinical Director, said ‘it is traditional to, in our department, to name all the major equipment usually after a member of staff or their children, on this occasion we would like to name the new incubator MASON’.
