Freemasons' Hall Development Committee

After many years of considering the future of Freemasons’ Hall, Bridge Street, the headquarters of the Charity and Freemasonry in Manchester, agreements have been signed for the redevelopment of the building, subject to planning permission. The proposals will involve the refurbishment of the whole building both externally and internally and the reconfiguration of the third floor to provide new and refurbished lodge rooms and office facilities for the Province and the other orders that meet within the Province.

The remainder of the building will be refurbished for office and leisure use and will contain bars and restaurants for the public with separate dining rooms dedicated for Masonic purposes which will be contained within redeveloped space in the basement.  In addition Freemasonry will continue to have the use of the Derby Lodge room and dining room by prior appointment.

Separate agreements have been entered onto for the redevelopment of the car park site, also subject to planning permission, to create new office accommodation. The Charity will retain the freehold of the Building and car park site but have entered into agreements to grant long leases and to be granted a long lease back. The planning process will take some time particularly as approval for the scheme has to be obtained from English Heritage but it is hoped that work will commence at the beginning of April 2012, so as to avoid as much of the disruption as possible.

The redevelopment will put Freemasonry in to the heart of the new Spinningfield development and will enable us to become better involved in the life of the City.
