Christmas Outing of the Comforts Fund and Young People’s Committees

Dick Whittington at the Thwaites Theatre, Blackburn

On Saturday 13 December over sixty beneficiaries including children, widows, brethren, parents, grandchildren and guests from Hewlett Court attended the showing of Dick Whittington at the Thwaites Theatre Blackburn.

The invitations came from an initiative by Blackburn and Darwen Freemasons sponsoring forty four pantomime performances at the Thwaites Empire Theatre.  The project received £8,000 from the ELMC Community Fund.  In return for the good work of the Blackburn and Darwen Freemasons the ELMC, and other local good causes, were invited to attend one of the pantomime showings.

The show was absolutely fantastic.  All the beneficiaries had a wonderful time and the children were singing and shouting at the top of their voices.  There were a few surprises too; can you guess who the ugly sisters are?

Prior to the pantomime the group met at the Freemasons’ Hall, Bridge Street, Manchester for refreshments and were well catered for by Mr Riedlsperger and his staff.  A full coach then departed for Blackburn.  On the return journey many of the children were fast asleep having worn themselves out with all the excitement.

This event was the first event organised jointly by the ELMC Comforts Fund Committee and Young People’s Committee and was very successful.  Many thanks to Blackburn District.
