Gala Dinner a Huge Success
![]() |
Over 600 Brethren, their ladies and their guests assembled at Bridge Street for the 1st Gala Dinner in aid of the ELMC. Before the evening commenced over £20,000 had been raised in sponsorship and as I write the money raised on the evening is still being counted! | |
| An enormous amount of work went into the evening and the organisers are to be congratulated. The Starkie dining room was turned into a Christmas grotto with champagne fountain; the Rhodes dining room became a disco for the younger guests; the Entrance Hall became a casino where I lost my £50 token in under 20 seconds! | ![]() |

What a lovely evening we all had and a beautiful souvenir booklet was produced to remember it by. |
The raffle, which raised just short of £4,000, was won by Mrs Barbara Davies whose husband is W. Bro John Davies of Acacia Jubilee Lodge No. 5575 (Rhodes District). Mrs Davies was presented with a cheque for £1,000 on the evening by Mrs Sonia Bramley-Howarth.
The winner of the sponsorship raffle for the picture painted and donated by the artist Ged Mitchell was W. Bro Peter F. Harding, of Excelsior Lodge, No 4641, which meets at Salford. It is hoped that W.Bro Harding will be presented with the painting in the near future by VW. Bro Nigel Bramley-Howarth, the Deputy Provincial Grand Master.
