East Lancashire Masonic Charity

What has the Young Peoples Committee been up to?

A cracking run up to Christmas was had by all. First a trip to the Thwaites Theatre in Blackburn then a visit to the Palace in Manchester to see the Sound of Music.

ugly sisters

After enjoying sandwiches and chips at Bridge St. both younger and older beneficiaries were treated to the Blackburn Production’s rendition of Jack and the Beanstalk. The panto starred the usual thigh slapping characters along with our own Nigel Bramley Howarth and Derek Thornhill (above) as the Ugly Sisters(Whoops ! wrong panto) who complained that they’d got their venues mixed up and missed out on some very lucrative work in Oswaldtwistle.

Our second trip for the younger beneficiaries was to the Sound of Music at the Palace and starred Connie Fisher (from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Maria”).

Despite very inclement weather the trip was fully subscribed. We had an excellent buffet lunch at Bridge St. and walked to the theatre to enjoy the production which ended around 10 pm when the beneficiaries were given a selection box to help them on their way.

A recent survey of the beneficiaries has resulted in plenty of suggestions to guide the 2010 programme forward and will ensure the young people will continue to receive the kind of days out they enjoy.

If you know of any children, with Masonic connections, in distressed circumstances please tell your Almoner or contact the Welfare Office at Bridge St. (0161 832 6256), this of course applies to potential beneficiaries of all Masonic Charities.

A happy and prosperous new year to everyone from your YPC.
