100 Years Young

Mrs Rita Rimmington celebrated her 100th Birthday on Monday 13th October 2008. Rita is a widow of the Lodge of New Hope, which closed in 2007. Rita now lives at Priestnall Court Residential Care Home in Stockport. Her family, friends and the home arranged a wonderful celebratory party for her on the day, during which she received a visit from the Mayor of Stockport and a number of the brethren from the former Lodge of New Hope.

WBro Michael Nicholson, PProvGSwdB, the Salford Deputy Chairman and District Almoner, is shown presenting a card from the District together with a beautiful basket of flowers from the East Lancashire Masonic Charity.

Widows of closed Lodges (there are 300 such widows) come under the care of the ELMC and receive gifts on birthdays and at Christmas. Some pastoral support is provided by the District but Julie Ward, the ELMC Welfare Officer, keeps in touch with many such widows, especially those who become ELMC Beneficiaries.

The Benevolence Committee of the ELMC currently provides support to 532 Beneficiaries [106 widows, 24 Brethren, 28 Married Couples, 5 spinsters, 71 Young people and 298 Widows of Closed Lodges], and this is all managed with donations from the brethren and Lodges of East Lancashire.

Sadly Mrs. Rimmington's died on 8 November 2008. The death notice will appear in the Daily Telegraph.

The Funeral is to be at Stockport Crematorium, Rowan Chapel, Buxton Road, Heaviley, Stockport, SK2 6LS 480 5221 at 11.30am 29 November 2008

Her son has requested family flowers only with donations to ELMC.
