It’s beginning to look a lot like “Strictly”

At Ashton Masonic Club these young people from Latin Steps Dance were having a very lively fund raiser, the air was filled with music and the floor with excellent young dancers. It was then that the music stopped briefly to allow them to receive a much needed and very welcome gift from The East Lancs Masonic Charity – Grant Making Committee. The cheque for £3388-00 was presented by Peter Douthwaite and Alan Jones, Ashton and Mossley District’s Chairman and Charity Steward respectively.

The Grant will pay for a full set of costumes for the team and will display an ELMC logo on their track suits in recognition of the donation.

Just a few short years ago, the Latin Steps Dance School opened in Ashton with a handful of children in a hired and somewhat run down church hall. However, the school was run by a totally passionate and committed Latin and Ballroom dance teacher – Aimee Sheppard.

The Latin Steps Dance Company eventually took over their own studio. They now offer more classes where local children are given the opportunity to be part of a team, learn new skills, develop confidence and most importantly have fun. (It rather sounds like a mini version of Freemasonry!)

In 2017, they will be competing in Blackpool, Stoke and Wolverhampton, where there are thousands of other dancers and spectators. The school takes part in lots of carnivals and community events and has top spots at the speciality markets and the Christmas – “Big Lights” switch on across the boroughs. They are often seen in the newspapers and in social media where they will now be seen wearing the tracksuits bearing our Logo.

We wish them further success in this challenging and topical venture (and lots of fun too).
