Paul’s Story – Part Two

Following on from the report published in March from Paul Sellers, Paul has kindly sent this update and pictures:

Six Town Housing or Bury Corporation, as some of us oldies know it, run a gardening competition each year with several categories. I thought I would enter the ‘Most Improved Garden’. I sent the photo’s in and waited to be hopefully on the short list of finalists. The call came to say that I was and they came round to judge.

When they came round the back was ‘wow’ which was nice to hear. They were shocked to hear that this has all been done since last May and would never have guessed that there was a garden like this judging from the front of the house.

One of the judges asked me if I could move to different houses in the borough to do the same as this one. The answer they got was that I would be carried out in a box before I ever leave the bungalow!

When they left they said they would ring in a couple of days to tell me if I had won or not. The following day to my great surprise and delight I won. It was great for somebody else to appreciate my garden and the immense peace/satisfaction I get from it.

The plants have matured far quicker and more than expected so that next year I will need very few bedding plants which was always my intention and hope.

‘I love it when a plan comes together’

I know I keep going on about it but I couldn’t have done any of it without the astro turf and paving provided by ELMC. Their aim is to improve the quality of life and my god have they certainly done that.

I will always be in their debt.
